Quick Start Guide/User' s Guide

What does 'SPT Online' mean? How can it be resolved?

Some users may encounter a situation where their device shows as "SPT Online" and are unable to access the NAS system for use.

When NAS services are abnormal, the device status bar may display "SPT Online." Generally, the issue can be resolved using the following two methods:

  1. Restart the Cyber Cloud App and the NAS device to see if normal operation can be restored.
  2. There may be an issue with the read/write operations of a hard drive, causing a blockage after creating the system pool. You can try replacing the hard drive. If multiple hard drives are installed, you may attempt to keep only one hard drive connected, perform a forced reset, and then re-establish the system pool.

If the issue persists, it is recommended to contact the NAS technical support team for further troubleshooting and resolution.

Array Degraded refers to an important warning state in a NAS, indicating that your storage array (typically of a RAID type) is currently in an incomplete health condition, but remains functional.

This usually signals an issue with one or more hard drives and requires prompt attention, as the risk of data loss can significantly increase if left unresolved.

Common Causes and Solutions for Array Degradation

1. Hard Drive Failure, Unrecognized Drive, or Excessive Unrecoverable Bad Sectors

Symptoms: NAS alerts, numerous bad sectors, drive not recognized.

How to solve: Replace the faulty drive with a new one.

2. Hard Drive Slot or Backplane Failure

Symptoms: Drive intermittently detected, temporarily recovers after reinsertion.

How to solve:

  • Test the drive in a different slot.
  • Inspect/repair the NAS (backplane or motherboard).

3. Removing or Replacing One or More Hard Drives in the NAS

This often occurs after pulling out a drive or replacing it with a new one.

Solution Example (RAID 1 / Mirror):

· For instance, in a RAID 1 array, if one drive is removed, the storage pool will show the missing drive as "unknown size."

· If a new hard drive has already been inserted, navigate to Storage Pool → Replace Drive.

· Select the missing drive from the pool (usually marked as not "Normal").

· Choose the newly installed hard drive.

· The array will then begin rebuilding and return to a normal state.

If you encounter an "Array Degraded" warning, it's crucial to act promptly. First, identify the specific cause using your NAS management interface. Back up critical data immediately if possible. Then, follow the appropriate steps above, such as replacing a faulty drive or checking hardware connections. If the issue persists, consider consulting the NAS manufacturer's support or a professional technician.

Q: Does it have a built-in UPS battery function to prevent data loss due to power failure in the hard disk array?

A: Our NAS device currently does not come with a RAID backup battery.

Our system array is designed based on ZFS software RAID (such as RAID-Z, mirroring, etc.). The risk of data loss due to sudden power failure is much lower compared to traditional file systems or hardware RAID solutions, and the recovery mechanism is relatively mature.

ZFS’s Copy-on-Write (CoW), transaction groups, and metadata protection mechanisms make the probability of data loss extremely low during sudden power outages. Only non-critical data from the last few seconds before the power loss (or uncompleted synchronous write operations) may be affected, while core data and file system structures remain almost entirely intact.

ZFS’s recovery mechanism is highly automated, and most issues following a power failure do not require manual intervention.

To enhance data security, we plan to introduce UPS power integration in future updates to prevent potential abnormalities caused by sudden power loss. Please stay tuned for our upcoming releases.

· Open settings in CyberData App. Go to Settings - Storage Pool, then click System Pool.

· Scroll down to choose to scan and repair the pool.

· The data index can be rebuilt.

· Select the folder where the displayed file is abnormal.
